Nash Homestead, Bluestone Valley VA

The land that this house occupies was once owned by the Shannons of Bluestone Valley. Upon the death of William Vermillion Shannon and his wife Mary Brown Moore (1809-1881) the land passed to their son Elbert Catlett Shannon. Catlett never married and deeded his portion of the land upon his death to Andrew Jackson Nash (1853 1932). The land adjoined that of his in-laws, the Summers, and the rest of the Shannon land. George Rhea Nash (1899-1991) sold the land in 1970 to a neighbor who mostly uses it to let his livestock roam. The Nash family cemetery is located on this land.

Another view of the A.J. Nash (1853-1932) and Naomi John Summers (1856-1941) homestead. The house was obviously added onto several times and appears to have first started life as a one-room cabin. The house sits on solid stone, and has a large stone slab as the step leading to the back door.
