George Shawver built a gristmill in Clear Fork in 1860. His nephew, William Lewis Shawver Jr. ran the mill in the early 1900s.

Even though remnants of the mill still stand, much of the community of Shawver's Mill was demolished when the new road was built, including the house that was the home to William Lewis Shawver Jr. and Lavie Gertrude Nash.
