Strawberry Shortcut Cake

1 cup mini marshmallows
2 cups (2 10 oz. pkgs.) frozen, sliced strawberries in syrup, thawed
1 package (3 oz.) strawberry flavored geletin
2-1/4 cups all purpose flour
1-1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup solid shortening
3 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup milk
1 tsp. vanilla
3 eggs

Grease bottom only of 13"x9" pan. Sprinkle marshmallows evenly over bottom of pan. Thoroughly combine completely thawed strawberries and syrup with dry geletin. Set aside. In large mixing bowl, combine remaining ingredients. Blend at low speed until moist. Beat 3 minutes at medium speed, scraping sides of bowl. Pour batter evenly over marshmallows in pan. Spoon strawberry mixture evenly over batter. Back at 350 degrees for 45-50 minutes until golden brown and toothpick comes out clean. Serve warm or cool with ice cream or whipped cream.
